The slumps of utopia, feel right at home.

Continuing on from the Will and Kate post...

fortunately Utopian Slumps, whose opening I missed last Thursday, stayed open late for me to come and have a look around. The gallery owner Michelle had turned the enterprise from a non-profit to successful business over the course of five years. Utopian Slumps currently represents 13 Melbourne based artists. Owner builder showcases the work of New Zealand fine artist Jake Walker who takes existing works and adds geometric structure with paint, text and marking. The effect is engaging, with a reassuringly 70s familiarity, in faded hues and architectural shapes. Walker spent time in England, Germany and America in the late 90s.

Owner Builder

runs until 21 May 2011
